This is the host site for the open source outcomes of the JISC-funded Subject Portals Project which ended in the Autumn of 2004.
The Resource Discovery Network (RDN) Subject Portals Project developed portal functionality for some of the subject hubs of the RDN. These included:
A subject portal, for the purposes of this project, was a tailored view of the web within a particular subject area, with access to high-quality information resources made easier for the user through aggregated cross searching; streamlined account management; user profiling; and the provision of additional services.
For more info you can visit the main RDN SPP project website.
The hubs' beta portals can be accessed from here.
The project adopted a portal-based solution and produced a software package based on an open source portal framework (apache's jetspeed). The resulting code has been licensed as open source software and is available for download, development and re-use. Note: the code release is awaiting the confirmation of the final consortium agreement.
The hubs' beta portals are all based on this package, localised with content and look and feel to suit their subject communities.
